Two hikers were rescued in the Columbia River Gorge after getting lost and calling 911; they were found by drones and unharmed.
Two hikers were rescued early Wednesday in the Columbia River Gorge after getting lost on the Horsetail Falls trail system on Tuesday night.
They called 911 around 10:30 p.m., shared their GPS location, and stayed put while conserving phone battery.
A Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Green Hornets Team, using drones, located them just before 1 a.m. on October 8.
The hikers were cold and thirsty but unharmed, receiving water and jackets before being safely returned to their vehicle.
Officials praised their preparedness and urged hikers to tell someone about plans, wear proper gear, and stay put if lost.
