Sunset Slope Quilters donated 250 handmade stockings to foster children in Mesa County, continuing a 32-year tradition.
The Sunset Slope Quilters, a Grand Junction group founded in 1986, donated 250 handmade Christmas stockings to Mesa County’s foster care system, marking their 32nd consecutive year of the tradition.
Over nearly four decades, they’ve made about 8,000 stockings, each requiring eight fabric pieces.
More than 150 members contributed to this year’s batch, with the gifts delivered to the Department of Human Services for distribution to foster children.
The stockings, given to foster parents to open on Christmas morning, aim to bring joy and a sense of belonging to children who may feel overlooked during the holidays.
The group also makes quilts for cancer patients and supports Habitat for Humanity.
