Six people injured in Kanpur market explosion from detonating scooters near mosque; investigation ongoing.
An explosion at Kanpur’s Mishri Bazaar market on Wednesday evening injured at least six people, with some suffering serious burns, as two parked scooters detonated near a mosque in the Moolganj area.
The blasts, reported around 7:15–7:30 p.m., caused structural damage to nearby shops, shattered windows, and sent thick smoke into the air.
Police, bomb disposal squads, and forensic teams responded, cordoning off the site.
Authorities are investigating whether the blasts were caused by a battery malfunction, illegal firecrackers, or a sutli bomb, with no motive or suspects identified.
CCTV footage is being reviewed, and scooter owners are being questioned.
Injured victims were treated at local hospitals, with several transferred to KGMU Lucknow for specialized care.
The probe remains ongoing, and no connection has been found to a similar blast in Farrukhabad earlier in the week.
