Queensland canceled a $630,000 training program for a Russell Island project due to unmet community benefit requirements.
A $630,000 state training program under Queensland’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative has been cancelled, halting renovations at a Russell Island property co-owned by Redlands councillor Shane Rendalls and Dan Golin.
The project, intended to train 24 workers and upgrade cabins for crisis housing and a community centre, was withdrawn by BUSY at Work after phase one, which included site cleanup.
The government confirmed the cancellation, citing failure to meet community benefit requirements.
Rendalls said the offer was rejected over a month prior due to concerns about effectiveness, while Golin cited the program’s incompatibility with the island setting.
No further details on the property’s future were provided.
