Nissan plans to build a hybrid Rogue in Tennessee by 2026 with Ford or Stellantis, amid major financial struggles and restructuring.
Nissan is exploring partnerships with Ford and Stellantis to produce a hybrid version of its upcoming Rogue, known globally as the X-Trail, for North America starting late 2026 at its Smyrna, Tennessee plant.
The vehicle will use Nissan’s e-Power system, where an electric motor drives the wheels and a petrol engine recharges the battery.
If Ford joins, the model could replace the outgoing Escape, allowing Ford to focus on the Bronco Sport.
Stellantis may use the platform for a Dodge variant, though sales of its current Hornet have been weak.
The move comes as Nissan faces a ¥670.9 billion loss in fiscal 2025, plans to cut 20,000 jobs, close seven plants, and has exited the U.S. electric vehicle market.
The automaker seeks to boost production and offset hybrid development costs, possibly receiving an electric vehicle from a partner, though that is not required.
Nissan has dropped out of the global top 10 automakers for the first time in 16 years.
