A second lawsuit has been filed against Florida’s 2025 hurricane relief law, Senate Bill 180, which suspends local land-use regulations for three years to speed up rebuilding.
Filed by 1,000 Friends of Florida and an Orange County resident, the suit argues the law violates the state constitution by combining unrelated policies, is unconstitutionally vague, and undermines local control and environmental protections.
It challenges the law’s broad reach, including its allowance for large developments and provisions enabling lawsuits without proof of personal harm.
The case, filed October 7, 2025, in Leon County, follows a similar challenge by 25 local governments.
