A 54-year-old man has been charged after a fire erupted during a police raid on a West Auckland home on Colwill Road, Massey, on October 9, 2025. Authorities believe the property, suspected of methamphetamine production, was deliberately set ablaze during the operation by an occupant. Four people were removed from the scene; one man faces charges including arson, drug production, injuring a police dog, and resisting arrest. A police dog was injured but recovered, and one person was hospitalized with burns and a dog bite, treated in moderate condition. Fire and Emergency NZ and PHF Science are examining the site for evidence of drug manufacturing. The area remains cordoned off, and a bedside hearing is expected.
