Deep Sky to build major carbon capture plant in Manitoba, capturing 500,000 tons of CO₂ yearly starting 2026.
Deep Sky, a Montreal-based climate tech company, plans to build one of the world’s largest direct air carbon capture facilities in southwestern Manitoba, with an eventual capacity of 500,000 tonnes of CO₂ captured annually.
Construction of the first 30,000-tonne phase begins in 2026, powered by Manitoba’s clean hydroelectric grid and supported by favorable geology for permanent CO₂ storage.
The project, expected to bring $500 million in investment and hundreds of jobs, follows new provincial legislation and includes a commitment to collaborate with the Dakota Grand Council.
It builds on Deep Sky’s successful Alberta facility and expands Canada’s role in global carbon removal efforts.
