U.S. Highway 97 reopened after fire closure, but pilot cars and delays persist near Blewett Pass.
U.S. Highway 97 over Blewett Pass has reopened between mileposts 149 and 178 after closing since September 21 due to the Labor Mountain Fire, which has burned 39,324 to 39,753 acres and is 10% contained.
Pilot car operations and reduced speeds remain in effect from milepost 165 to 178.
Fire response crews are still using the road, so drivers must stay alert, avoid passing or turning off when following a pilot car, and expect delays.
Several campgrounds and trailheads remain closed, and the pass could close again with little notice.
Travelers are urged to check WSDOT’s real-time travel map and plan alternate routes.
