The trade deal, effective July 2025, cuts tariffs on UK exports like cars and whisky and lowers barriers for Indian textiles and jewellery.
A three-year exemption from social security contributions for short-term Indian workers was included, but broader visa reforms were not announced.
Starmer reiterated the government’s commitment to reducing overall immigration levels and maintaining border security, even as it expands global economic partnerships.
New direct flights between the UK and Delhi were also announced during the trip.
