Two men are on trial for allegedly plotting terrorist attacks on Jewish communities in Manchester using firearms and explosives.
Two men, Walid Saadaoui, 38, and Amar Hussein, 52, are on trial at Preston Crown Court, accused of plotting terrorist attacks on Jewish communities in Manchester between December 2023 and May 2024, using firearms and ammunition to target mass gatherings and law enforcement.
Prosecutors allege they were Islamic extremists who believed they were working with a third man, Farouk, who was actually an undercover officer, leading to the plot’s disruption.
Evidence included footage of Saadaoui fleeing police with weapons, reconnaissance plans, and extremist digital content on the defendants’ devices.
A third defendant, Saadaoui’s brother Bilel, 36, faces separate charges for failing to disclose terrorism-related information.
The judge emphasized the case is unrelated to a recent synagogue attack, and all three deny the charges.
The trial is expected to last up to 12 weeks.
