North Carolina football coach Armond Hawkins suspended for giving illegal recruiting benefits to a recruit’s family.
North Carolina football assistant coach Armond Hawkins has been suspended for providing illegal recruiting benefits, reportedly giving sideline passes to a recruit’s family members, violating NCAA rules.
The suspension, announced by The Athletic, comes during a difficult start to head coach Bill Belichick’s first season, as the Tar Heels sit at 2-3 and have lost their three Power Four games by a combined 120-33.
Hawkins, in his first season as an on-field coach, previously worked at USC, Colorado, Arizona, and Washington.
The length of the suspension is unknown.
Belichick has also restricted staff from discussing his New England Patriots past on social media and barred Patriots scouts from attending practices.
North Carolina has a bye week before playing Cal on October 17.
