New Zealand proposes doubling home solar export limit to 10kW to cut costs and boost clean energy use.
The Electricity Authority in New Zealand is proposing to double the default export limit for residential solar and small-scale renewables from 5kW to 10kW, aiming to improve grid efficiency, reduce consumer costs, and boost returns on solar investments.
The change, part of the Network Connections project, seeks to modernize outdated rules that hinder clean energy use, with a standardized assessment method required if lower limits are needed.
Feedback is open until 19 November 2025, with future phases to address larger generators and connection fees.
