A new winter shelter opens in Napanee, Ontario, on November 1, 2025, offering beds and services to unhoused people.
The Morningstar Mission’s warming centre in Napanee will open November 1, 2025, and operate until April 30, offering shelter to unhoused individuals, including those couch surfing.
Located at 58 Water St. W., it runs from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday through Friday and provides 23-hour weekend service with a brief cleaning break.
Supported by Prince Edward Lennox and Addington Social Services, the centre is staffed by volunteers and employees.
Last winter, it served an average of 15 to 17 people nightly, with 141 unique individuals using services.
Officials anticipate reaching capacity this year due to rising living costs impacting diverse populations.
Additional services include free meals, showers, clothing, furniture sharing, worship, and tax help.
A Thanksgiving meal is held monthly after Saturday worship.
