A man died in a 2024 UK house fire caused by a faulty toaster, officials say.
A 35-year-old man, Daniel McLaughlin, died in a house fire in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire, on November 4, 2024, after a malfunctioning toaster sparked the blaze in his kitchen.
Neighbors alerted emergency services around 12:53 a.m. after smelling smoke, but McLaughlin was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation by Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the toaster as the fire’s origin.
Assistant Coroner Simon Burge ruled the death accidental, and officials urged the public to exercise caution with electrical appliances, follow manufacturer instructions, and maintain fire safety practices at home.
