A judge blocked Trump-era rules that would have restricted LGBTQ+ and sex education in teen pregnancy programs, calling them politically driven and unlawful.
A federal judge has blocked a Trump administration policy that sought to overhaul teen pregnancy prevention programs, ruling the changes were politically motivated, lacked proper analysis, and violated Congress’s mandate for evidence-based programming.
The decision, by Judge Beryl Howell, prevents the Department of Health and Human Services from enforcing new guidelines that would have restricted content on LGBTQ+ issues, gender identity, and comprehensive sex education.
The ruling protects funding recipients nationwide, including Planned Parenthood, nonprofits, health departments, tribes, and universities, preserving existing program standards.
The administration argued the policy protected parental rights and prevented exposure to explicit material, but the court found the directives too vague and inconsistent with statutory requirements.
The Department of Health and Human Services declined to comment.
