Italy’s leaders face ICC probe over alleged arms support for Israel in Gaza, though no charges issued.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Tuesday that she and two ministers, Defense Minister Guido Crosetto and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, had been reported to the International Criminal Court over allegations of complicity in genocide related to Italy’s military support for Israel’s operations in Gaza.
Meloni, speaking on state television, expressed disbelief, noting Italy has not approved new arms shipments since October 7, 2023, when Hamas attacked Israel.
The ICC has not yet issued charges, but the complaint—signed by around 50 legal experts and public figures—accuses Italy of enabling war crimes and crimes against humanity through arms exports.
The conflict has killed over 67,000 people in Gaza, according to Hamas-run health authorities.
