A fire at a Lewiston, Maine, warming center injured one woman, following an explosion and burning vehicle; the cause is under investigation.
A fire broke out Tuesday afternoon at Kaydenz Kitchen, a warming center and nonprofit in the former Schemengees Bar & Grille building in Lewiston, Maine, injuring one woman with non-life-threatening burns.
The blaze, which started around 3:30 p.m. at 551 Lincoln St., followed reports of an explosion and a burning vehicle.
All occupants evacuated safely, and firefighters contained the flames, though hot spots remained.
A section of Lincoln Street stayed closed as emergency crews worked to secure the scene.
The cause is under investigation by the state fire marshal.
The building, previously the site of a 2023 mass shooting, reopened in November as a community hub.
