ED raids in Kerala and Tamil Nadu target alleged luxury car smuggling ring involving celebrities and forged documents.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided 17 locations in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, including homes of actors Mammootty, Dulquer Salmaan, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Amit Chakkalakkal, over an alleged luxury car smuggling scheme involving Bhutan and Nepal.
The probe, linked to FEMA violations, centers on a suspected syndicate that allegedly imported high-end vehicles using forged documents from entities like the Indian Army and US Embassy to secure fake registrations.
Vehicles were reportedly sold at discounts to buyers, including celebrities.
The raids follow a Kerala High Court order allowing Dulquer to seek release of one seized car if he provides ownership proof and security, though Customs may retain it.
Over 150 such vehicles are believed in Kerala, with about 40 seized.
The investigation is ongoing and may expand.
