Buchan Offshore Wind seeks approval to connect its 1-gigawatt floating wind project to the UK grid via Peterhead, aiming for 2033 operation.
Buchan Offshore Wind has submitted an onshore planning application to Aberdeenshire Council for infrastructure to connect its proposed 1-gigawatt floating offshore wind farm, 75 km northeast of Fraserburgh, to the UK grid via the Peterhead substation.
The project, targeting a 2033 connection, aims to power about a million homes, drive over £900 million in Scottish investment, and create up to 2,900 construction jobs.
It will use underground cables, minimize environmental impact, and leverage BW Ideol’s Damping Pool® floating foundation with a manufacturing hub planned at Ardersier.
The company has held nine public events, incorporated feedback, and previously submitted an offshore consent application.
Timely approvals are seen as critical to unlocking investment and advancing Scotland’s clean energy goals.
