Banaras Hindu University held a review meeting on October 7, 2025, assessing progress on India’s National Education Policy 2020, focusing on the First Year Undergraduate Programme, flexible major-minor combinations, and the possibility of switching majors or adding a second minor after the first year.
The university confirmed 2-credit pass/fail internships after Year 1 and Year 2, expanded multidisciplinary and value-added courses beyond Ayurveda and Yoga, and strengthened practical components in skill and vocational courses.
Up to 40% of credits may come from SWAYAM online courses, with standardized assessments and a credit load of 18–22 per semester over eight semesters.
While no lateral entry is currently allowed, future conditional entry may be considered based on merit and seat availability.
The university reaffirmed its commitment to student choice, academic quality, and NEP-aligned reforms.
