A 13-year-old boy’s family sued his school district, saying it failed to stop bullying after a video of him was shared, contributing to his suicide.
The family of 13-year-old Gabriel Palacios, a Coronado Middle School seventh-grader who died by suicide in April 2025, has sued the Coronado Unified School District, alleging the school failed to protect him from severe bullying after a private video of him was shared without consent.
The lawsuit claims the school ignored repeated concerns, did not confiscate devices or investigate thoroughly, and disciplined Gabriel for an unfounded weapon allegation, worsening his distress.
Despite his daily refuge in the counselor’s office, officials took minimal action, the family says, contributing to his death.
The district acknowledged the lawsuit but declined to comment.
