University of Delhi challenges court's stay on suspending principal accused of sexual harassment.
The University of Delhi has challenged a Delhi High Court interim stay on the suspension of Ramanujan College principal Professor Rasal Singh, accused of sexual harassment by three female teachers.
The court had halted the suspension on September 26, ruling the principal was denied a hearing and that only the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) can decide interim measures under the POSH Act.
The university argues the suspension was lawful and necessary for faculty safety, asserting the ICC lacked jurisdiction and did not recommend suspension.
Three petitions—by the university, college, and one complainant—seek to overturn the stay, with the matter set for hearing before a division bench.
The court has urged the ICC to expedite the inquiry.
