Three lives were lost in New South Wales over the October long weekend in crashes linked to reckless driving, alcohol, and drugs, police said.
During a four-day operation across northern regions, authorities issued over 3,000 infringements, conducted thousands of breath and drug tests, and charged 86 drivers with drink driving.
Statewide, 300 drink-driving charges, 724 positive drug tests, and 4,026 speeding violations were recorded, with 285 major crashes and 11,389 total infringements.
The state’s road toll since January 1 reached 277.
Officials stressed the deaths were preventable, urging drivers to avoid alcohol and drugs, stay focused, and slow down, warning enforcement will remain strict during the holiday season.
