A temporary steel bridge will replace Kangaroo Valley’s aging Hampden Bridge to allow heavier vehicles, pending assessments and repairs.
A temporary single-lane steel truss bridge is planned for Kangaroo Valley to replace the structurally limited Hampden Bridge, which currently restricts vehicles to 23 tonnes.
The new bridge, using prefabricated sections, would allow vehicles up to 42.5 tonnes and is expected to be faster to build than a permanent replacement.
However, construction is delayed by required planning, environmental and heritage assessments, engineering design, and legal reviews.
In the meantime, repairs continue, including replacing nine damaged beams in August and strengthening 12 more in 2026.
Long-term options are under evaluation, with decisions expected within 12 months.
