Tazmin Brits became first woman to score five ODI centuries in a year, leading South Africa to victory over New Zealand.
Tazmin Brits made history in the ICC Women's World Cup match against New Zealand, scoring a 101 off 89 balls to become the first female cricketer to hit five ODI centuries in a single calendar year. Her innings helped South Africa chase down 232 with 9.1 overs to spare, overcoming an earlier 69-all-out. Brits also became the fastest player to reach seven ODI centuries, doing so in 41 innings, surpassing Meg Lanning’s record. With 749 runs at 83.22 in 11 innings this year, she credited her form to batting camps and a more expansive approach. Nonkululeko Mlaba took four wickets, dismissing New Zealand for 231 despite Sophie Devine’s 85. Sune Luus hit the winning runs with 83 not out. South Africa, now seeking momentum, face a tough tournament, while New Zealand, despite Devine’s 300th appearance and Bates’ 350th, remain winless.
