Slovakia approves U.S. nuclear deal with Westinghouse for 1,000+ MW reactor at Jaslovské Bohunice.
Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico announced on October 7, 2025, that the government has approved a deal with the U.S. to build a new state-owned nuclear reactor at the Jaslovské Bohunice site, expected to generate over 1,000 megawatts.
The project, costing up to 15 billion euros ($17.5 billion), will be developed through direct negotiations with Westinghouse instead of a public tender.
The new reactor will support Slovakia’s reliance on nuclear power, which supplies over 80% of its electricity, and aligns with similar nuclear expansion efforts in neighboring Central and Eastern European countries.
The signing date remains unspecified.
