Scottish businesses in high-growth sectors like tech, life sciences, and green energy can now borrow up to £10 million using intellectual property as collateral, thanks to new 2025 legislation and a rollout of RBS’s IP-backed loan program.
The initiative, already active in England and Wales since 2024 with over £22 million in loans issued, aims to help IP-rich startups and scale-ups overcome traditional financing barriers.
Officials including Douglas Alexander and Kate Forbes hailed it as a major step in boosting innovation and global competitiveness.
The program was announced during the Scottish Global Investment Summit in Edinburgh.
