A proposed 100-home project near Milbourne, Wiltshire, was rejected due to archaeological, safety, and community concerns.
A proposed development of nearly 100 homes on a 5.7-hectare site near Milbourne, Wiltshire, has been rejected after a planning appeal was dismissed.
The original refusal by Wiltshire Council in October 2024 cited concerns over the site’s archaeological significance, impact on rural character, strain on local services, and serious pedestrian safety risks, including crossings of the busy B4040 and A429.
Over 120 public comments supported the council’s concerns, and a planning inspector upheld the decision, stating the scale was inappropriate for a small village and would blur the boundary between Milbourne and Malmesbury.
The outcome was welcomed by local officials, who emphasized protection of community infrastructure and safety, particularly following a recent fatal accident on the A429.
