Northern Ireland's Health Minister pledges probe into flawed cervical screenings affecting women from 2008 to 2021.
Northern Ireland's Health Minister Mike Nesbitt reaffirmed his commitment to investigating serious flaws in the Southern Health Trust's cervical screening programme, following a review of 17,500 smear tests from 2008 to 2021.
The review, prompted by a Royal College of Pathologists report, found eight women developed cancer and 11 needed treatment for pre-cancerous conditions due to misread results.
Affected women and campaigners, including the Ladies with Letters group, continue to call for a statutory public inquiry to uncover the causes, ensure accountability, and prevent future failures.
Nesbitt acknowledged the emotional toll and emphasized ongoing improvements, with three additional reports expected soon to inform future reforms.
