Voters in North Carolina’s Piedmont region, including Greensboro and Asheboro, cast ballots in municipal primaries on Tuesday, selecting candidates for November’s general election.
Greensboro held an open mayoral race for the first time in over a decade after incumbent Nancy Vaughan chose not to run, with four candidates competing, including a former mayor and judge.
Several city council seats were also on the ballot.
In Asheboro, voters narrowed a 14-candidate city council field to eight and selected four candidates to replace retiring Mayor David Smith.
Early voting saw over 6,500 in Guilford County and more than 1,200 in Randolph County.
The results will determine who appears on the November 4 ballot.
