A new digital center in Sichuan preserves Tang and Song dynasty grottoes using advanced tech, drawing over 150,000 visitors since May 2025.
In Sichuan’s Anyue County, a new digital exhibition center opened in May 2025 uses 3D scanning, holograms, and AI to preserve and display Tang and Song dynasty grottoes, attracting over 150,000 visitors.
The site, built on geologically favorable sandstone, houses nearly 500 grotto-temple sites with over 100,000 carvings.
Facing threats from weathering and remote access, the county has enforced protection laws since 2018, deployed 3,500 guardians, and installed 24/7 surveillance at 177 key sites.
Future plans include high-precision 3D modeling, digital archiving, and a public mini-program for virtual access by year-end.
