A Nassau County officer leading a funeral procession was critically injured in a crash caused by a driver in Suffolk County.
A Nassau County Highway Patrol officer, Michael Hyland, 53, was seriously injured in a crash during a funeral procession in Lindenhurst, Long Island, on Monday morning.
He was leading the procession on a Harley Davidson when a 2020 Toyota Tundra, driven by 61-year-old Jeffrey Geller, struck him on North Wellwood Avenue.
Hyland, who was in critical but stable condition, was taken to a West Islip hospital.
The crash occurred in Suffolk County jurisdiction, prompting an investigation by Suffolk County Police, with Nassau County also involved.
No charges are expected for Geller, who was unharmed.
Residents have raised concerns about traffic safety at the intersection, citing frequent speeding and accidents.
