The Indian Cabinet has approved four rail multitracking projects worth Rs 24,634 crore across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh, adding about 894 km to the railway network.
The projects, set for completion by 2030-31, will enhance connectivity for 18 districts and over 3,633 villages, including two Aspirational Districts.
They include new third and fourth lines on key routes, improving freight capacity by 78 million tonnes annually and reducing congestion.
Aligned with the PM Gati Shakti plan, the upgrades aim to boost economic growth, reduce oil imports by 28 crore liters, cut CO2 emissions by 139 crore kg yearly, and support tourism by linking major heritage and natural sites.
