Greenville dropped its lawsuit against Camping World after a state law allowed large flag displays, ending a costly dispute.
The Greenville City Council unanimously dropped its lawsuit against Camping World after North Carolina’s HB 926 took effect, a law preventing local governments from regulating the size of U.S. or state flags on private property.
The state law, which passed without Governor Stein’s signature, nullified $37,500 in fines and ended legal costs exceeding $27,000.
The flag, displayed on a 130-foot pole, violated the city’s 216-square-foot limit, but the new law allows such displays unless health or safety risks are proven and reviewed by the state DOT.
The decision resolves a months-long dispute and reflects broader limits on local authority under state law.
