Former LA deputy mayor fined $5K and given 50 hours community service for fake bomb threat using city phone.
Brian K. Williams, a former Los Angeles deputy mayor, was sentenced to 50 hours of community service and a $5,000 fine after pleading guilty to making a false bomb threat in October 2024.
He falsely reported a bomb threat to City Hall using his city-issued phone, claiming an unknown caller threatened to detonate a bomb in the rotunda due to frustration over the city’s support of Israel.
Authorities found the call he cited was one he had made to himself from his personal phone, and no devices were discovered during the LAPD investigation.
Williams, who retired in April 2025, admitted to fabricating the report during a period of personal stress.
He was placed on one year of federal probation.
