Five relatives of Ashling Murphy’s killer face prison for hiding evidence; sentencing is Oct. 22.
Five family members of Jozef Puska, convicted in the 2022 murder of Ashling Murphy, have been warned by Judge Caroline Biggs to prepare for possible prison sentences ahead of their October 22 sentencing.
Puska, serving a life sentence, was found guilty of murder after a trial.
His wife Lucia Istokova and brothers Marek and Lubomir Puska, along with their wives Viera Gaziova and Jozefina Grundzova, were convicted of concealing evidence and failing to report the crime, including burning Puska’s clothes.
Istokova admitted withholding information, citing fear and shock after learning her partner was the killer.
The court heard cultural factors, including strong family loyalty, may have influenced their actions.
The family has 14 children under 16, and defence lawyers urged leniency, citing challenges for non-Irish nationals in prison.
Victim impact statements will be heard before sentencing.
