Environmental groups sue EPA over cancellation of $7B Solar for All program, calling it unlawful and harmful to climate and low-income families.
Environmental and labor groups sued the EPA over the cancellation of the $7 billion Solar for All program, which aimed to provide solar energy to over 900,000 low-income households.
The lawsuit, filed in Rhode Island federal court, argues the termination was unlawful because funds had already been awarded and the move undermines clean energy access, job creation, and climate goals.
The program, part of a $27 billion Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund established by the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, was canceled after a July tax and spending bill revoked unallocated climate grants.
Plaintiffs claim the cancellation will cost families $400 annually in energy savings and prevent over 30 million metric tons of carbon emissions.
The EPA declined to comment, while the Trump administration continues rolling back climate initiatives, including canceling $7.6 billion in clean energy grants and targeting offshore wind and emissions reporting.
Los grupos ambientalistas demandaron a la EPA por la cancelación del programa Solar for All de $7 mil millones, calificándolo de ilegal y perjudicial para el clima y las familias de bajos ingresos.
