Carlton High School celebrated Indigenous culture on Treaty 6 territory with performances, speeches, and inclusion of Dene traditions.
Carlton Comprehensive High School in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, held its seventh annual Carlton Indigenous Day on October 6, 2025, celebrating Indigenous cultures on Treaty 6 territory.
The event featured a Grand Entry with performances by student dancers, drum groups, and the Prince Albert Raiders as flag bearers, along with speeches from community leaders and a prayer by Elder Liz Settee.
This year emphasized greater inclusion of Dene culture through representation from Elders, language speakers, and traditional hand games.
Retiring co-chair Bonnie Vandale was honored with a Star Blanket for her 35-year career in education, including 26 years at the school.
The day included breakout sessions, a square-dancing demonstration, and musical performances by the Rez Boys, highlighting the school’s ongoing commitment to Indigenous education and cultural appreciation.
