flag A Canadian man got a 4-month sentence and driving ban after crashing while drunk in 2024.

A 54-year-old Port Colborne man, Kirkwood Whiteman, was given a four-month conditional sentence and a three-year driving suspension after pleading guilty to driving with a blood alcohol level above the legal limit following a May 19, 2024, crash on Highway 17 in Warren. Authorities found him alert but impaired with slurred speech and a failed screening test, and Intoxilyzer tests showed levels of 120 and 110, both above the 80 limit. He admitted to the charge, leading the Crown to drop a more serious impaired driving charge. Justice Tanya Farkouh Martin, presiding via Zoom, imposed house arrest for two months followed by a curfew for two months, along with mandatory treatment and a probation order. Whiteman, who has a prior 1998 conviction for a similar offense, expressed remorse. His defence highlighted his employment with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees in Toronto.
