A Brockville food bank faces record demand, up 16% in summer, and is launching a Thanksgiving drive with community support.
The Brockville and Area Food Bank is preparing for its annual Harvest Sharing Food Drive amid a 16% increase in demand from July to August, with projections of over 22,000 visits in 2025—nearly one in 13 residents. The rise is linked to the end of school-based food programs during summer months. The Rotary Club of Brockville and the Rotary Club of the 1000 Islands are leading a Thanksgiving drive with food collections at local schools and the Real Canadian Superstore starting October 9. Scotiabank is matching donations up to $3,000, and Polar Springs Hot Tubs donated 100 turkeys. The food bank, open Tuesday through Friday and one Monday evening monthly, encourages both food and cash contributions to support efficient, targeted purchasing.
