British Columbia expands sexual violence protections, raising victim compensation to $75,000 and broadening campus policies.
British Columbia is introducing new legislation to strengthen protections against sexual violence and non-consensual sharing of intimate images, increasing the maximum compensation victims can seek to $75,000.
The changes, announced on October 6, 2025, aim to improve access to justice and support for survivors, with the province also proposing expanded campus sexual violence policies covering staff and contractors.
The updates follow the 2024 implementation of the Intimate Images Protection Act, which has seen 381 cases processed and nearly 700 contacts to support services.
