Berkshire councils unite to boost housing for vulnerable groups, backed by Homes England.
Berkshire’s six local councils have launched a joint effort via the Berkshire Prosperity Board to tackle housing shortages, focusing on social, affordable, and specialist homes for vulnerable, disabled, and elderly residents.
Led by Wokingham and supported by Bracknell Forest, the initiative includes coordination with Homes England, formation of a housing offices group, and progress on projects like 42 flats for older adults, a learning disability day centre in Reading, and a 46-bed care centre in Bracknell.
Homes England has backed developments including 16 affordable homes in Reading and 119 flats in Newbury.
Councils are addressing diverse needs, from family-sized homes in urban areas to smaller homes for retirees, with ongoing strategy reviews in Slough and a focus on wellbeing in Windsor and Maidenhead.
