A 13-year-old Bathurst student, Vivienne Todorova, is set to visit Ohkuma, Japan, for a four-week exchange, potentially reviving a sister city program inactive since 2010.
The visit, inspired by Fukedo Reekie, who has maintained ties between the cities, marks a hopeful step toward renewed cultural exchange.
Vivienne, preparing with language study, will attend school, live with a host family, and witness Ohkuma’s rebuilding efforts following the 2011 disaster.
Funded by her family, the trip aims to strengthen ties between Bathurst and Ohkuma, formally linked since 1991.
