Tharisa plans a $547 million investment over 10 years to convert its South African open-pit platinum and chrome mine to underground operations, aiming to extend its life and boost efficiency.
The project, set to deliver ore from the first shaft by Q2 2026, is expected to produce at least 200,000 ounces of PGMs and over 2 million tonnes of chrome concentrate annually once complete.
The company forecasts 2025 PGM output of 140,000 to 160,000 ounces and chrome concentrate between 1.65 million and 1.8 million tonnes.
