The Supreme Court upheld its April 2025 ruling that Balaji’s post-bail minister appointment raised judicial integrity concerns, warning bail could be revoked if it undermined the trial.
The Supreme Court has declined to clarify its April 2025 order that led former Tamil Nadu minister V Senthil Balaji to resign, upholding its prior stance that his appointment as minister after bail raised concerns about judicial integrity.
While the court stated it did not legally bar him from office, it emphasized it could revoke bail if his role undermined the trial.
The bench, led by Justices Surya Kant and Joymala Bagchi, noted Balaji’s quick return to office post-bail prompted criticism and warned of potential bail cancellation.
The court also suggested shifting the high-profile cash-for-job scam trial to Delhi due to influence concerns, though it acknowledged Tamil Nadu’s objections.
Balaji’s plea for clarification was withdrawn after the court’s position became clear.
