Supreme Court to review petition for national digital portal to claim ₹3.5L cr in unclaimed assets.

The Supreme Court has agreed to review a public interest petition calling for a centralized digital portal to help Indians claim unclaimed financial assets worth around ₹3.5 lakh crore. The petition highlights systemic gaps—such as fragmented records, missing nominee details, and no unified system—preventing millions from accessing dormant bank accounts, insurance payouts, provident fund balances, and mutual fund units. It argues the state’s inaction violates constitutional rights to equality, property, and dignity. The court has directed the Union government, RBI, SEBI, IRDAI, EPFO, and other regulators to respond within four weeks, with the matter to be heard again after submissions.
