A study finds simple tools boost pediatricians' adherence to early peanut introduction guidelines, significantly increasing recommended care for infants.
A new study shows that simple tools like training videos, electronic health record prompts, and visual aids significantly boost pediatricians’ adherence to guidelines for early peanut introduction in infants, increasing compliance from 35% to 84% among low-risk infants and from 10% to 27% among high-risk infants.
The intervention, tested across 30 Illinois pediatric practices and involving 18,480 infants, led to nearly 15 times higher rates of recommended care and more referrals for allergy testing.
Published in Pediatrics on October 6, 2025, the research supports early peanut exposure as a proven strategy to reduce peanut allergies, with long-term outcomes tracked until age 2.5.
The study was funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
