South Africa’s Supreme Court of Appeal has upheld King Misuzulu kaZwelithini’s legitimacy as Zulu monarch, overturning a previous high court ruling that questioned President Cyril Ramaphosa’s recognition of him.
The court ruled the identification process followed Zulu customary law and dismissed challenges by princes Simakade and Mbonisi, finding no evidence of legal violations.
It affirmed that Misuzulu, as the first-born son of the late Queen Mantfombi, was properly nominated and recognized by the royal family.
The decision resolves a years-long legal dispute stemming from the deaths of King Zwelithini and Queen Mantfombi in 2021.
