Security chief Qasim Shabazz condemned Omaha police over gunpoint traffic stop, citing poor situational awareness and calling for accountability and improved procedures.
Qasim Shabazz, security chief for boxer Terence “Bud” Crawford, responded to an Omaha Police Department investigation into a traffic stop where Crawford and four others were held at gunpoint after a firearm was found in the vehicle.
Shabazz criticized the officers' use of firearms as excessive, stressing that the incident was about police situational awareness and accountability, not Nebraska’s permitless carry law.
While Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said officers followed protocol but acknowledged room for improvement due to outdated guidance since the law’s enactment, Shabazz welcomed the department’s consideration of new procedures, including asking drivers about legal firearms during stops, as a step toward better community trust and transparency.
El jefe de seguridad Qasim Shabazz condenó a la policía de Omaha por detener el tráfico a punta de pistola, citando una escasa conciencia de la situación y pidiendo rendición de cuentas y procedimientos mejorados.
